Stair Masters!

So Lance and I are doing A LOT of stairs lately. Probably serves us right for not exercising for the last 6 months. Oh well, every time I look at the stairs I think about the pounds that will soon be melting off! Hahaha take that stairs!

8/08/2010

Checking in

Mike had 30 minutes this week. Yep I guilted him into it.
I had 4 1/2 hrs.

8/06/2010

update

Last week I had 3 hrs. I hope that since you guys are not exercising, that you are building me a raft.

7/27/2010

Help! I'm drowning

Alright you geeks! You get me out in the ocean and then you leave me there. You know how much I love all that water. I think the ocean is deeper than my bathtub. I am taking matters into my own hands. I'm happy to report that a whale came and swallowed me and we made it 8 hrs last week.

7/24/2010

fell off the bandwagon

wow does everyone realize that it has been 2 MONTHS since any of us has reported anything? I know I have been a total slacker and have not been excerising the way I planned but hey I can always start again. So here's to a new start!

5/30/2010

report

3 hrs for Mike this week.
I'll get my pedometer out and see how I do the 2 wks that I am out and about.

5/25/2010

Checking in

Mike worked out for 6 hrs over the last 3 weeks and I had 30 min. I can't remember but I think I report Mike's 1st 2 hrs and my 1/2 hr but too lazy to check it out. Lance I guess you can figure it out.

5/04/2010

update

Mike had 5 hrs and I had 30 minutes. It has been too dang cold to be doing anything outside.

5/02/2010

Can I count 1 hr for each census questionnaire I complete?
The map is updated. The monkey is where we should be as of the end of April. Got a lot of work to do still. Don't stop now!!!
Lance: 1 hour
Molly: 0

5/01/2010

I think Molly and I both had 110 minutes last week. This week, not so good. But we still have today...

4/28/2010

what we did

Mike had 2 1/2 hrs and I had 1 1/2. This darn weather is keeping me inside this week.

4/19/2010

Lance: 35 min
Molly: 90 min
G-ma: 15 min
G-pa: 420 min

4/11/2010

close competion

Molly and I are neck and neck. I'll have to work hard to stay ahead of her. But I am afraid of ALL that water. I hope there is a boat for me to float around on. If not I will just drown and be out of the competition, then who is going to cook the victory dinner??
Lance:0 Molly: 1 hour

4/09/2010

Slacker Mom

Hurry and update this before Mike figures out that I'm slacking to report his progress. Last week Mike and I combined for 5 hrs. I think you can probably figure out how to divide it out.

4/04/2010

Big fat zero for Lance. 1 hour for Molly.

3/28/2010

another week

Mike had 8 hrs and I had 35 min. Whenever the weather was decent, I was sitting around at work. Are we safely past the eaties now?

Weekly Report

Molly 45 min. Lance 90 min. I think. I could be lying but I had a busy week so I'll give myself the benefit of a doubt.

3/23/2010

Checking In

It finally go nice here for a couple of days so we went for a walk twice! Dan and I walked 4.75ish miles and I worked out 1/2 hour too.

3/21/2010

What Counts

The purpose of this program/game/trip/voyage/expedition/thing is to provide us with incentive to help us reach our personal fitness goals. Molly's goal and mine is to develop a habit of working out regularly. So for us we want to set aside a certain amount of time each day or every couple days to work out. Because that's our goal that is the time that we count. Because everybody in the family has different goals and things they want to achieve I would leave it up to the individual what they want to count.

If you're using Hawaii to motivate you to do more physical activity and improve your fitness I think you're on the right track. If you're trying to find time to count just for the "numbers" I think you will miss out on the overall benefit we are going for which is better fitness for everybody (at least I think that's our goal, right?)

I know it is a little vague but I think you need to decide what you need motivation or incentive to do and then use this trip to give you that incentive. In other words I think we each need to decide what we are going to count as progress towards our individual goals.

Mike and me

Mike had 8 hrs and I had 1 hr.

L & M let me know what your verdict is on me counting my walking miles for work. It might be ideal if we all had pedometers to count. But obviosly we don't have that now.

Progress

If any of you were wondering the monkey shows where we should be at the end of March. Guess we better get to work.

Invisible Bad Guys

I worked out 130 minutes last week and Molly did 100 (I think). Last night we did kickboxing from a video Mom left with us. It was pretty fun/intense. We beat up lots of invisible bad guys. If you come to our house the invisible bad guys won't mess with you cause we pretty much showed them who was boss. BAM BAM BAM!!!

3/18/2010

Hurry up!!

Lance would like to point out that he's pretty close to his eatie home land. I think we should step it up and work fast this week or we will be stuck in eatie land forever. I don't know if that gives any one else motivation but it sure motivates me to get him out of there before he can do to much damage. :)
I decided to make the map BIG! Now you can actually see it.
Updated everybody's times. Hope I'm all caught up now. Are we counting Steph's clinicals. Did you jog in place everytime you stopped? Map's also up to date. If you have a big enough monitor and look really hard you can see a little blue square above the CA. That's where we are now. Got a long way to go still. I know the numbers from my house will be a lot better this week. Helps when everybody's not pukin'. Piece.

Checking in

Mike had 7 1/2 hrs last week. And I had ZERO! Yep. And I'm proud of that. I bet I can repeat that next week if I try real hard.
Rachel. I haven't heard from you in a while are you still with us?

3/15/2010

Checking In

I did about an hour this week, and about 5 hours of walking for clinical does that count? I'm going to wear a pedometer tonight and see how much I actually walk. Hopefully I will do better this week.

3/14/2010

Our Awesome Week

Molly and I fell off the bandwagon so on Monday we decided we would work hard this week and start catching up. On Monday we pulled out an exercise video Mom left with us and did step aerobics for about 15 minutes when we heard Mark crying. We paused the video to go get him settled down and saw that he had thrown up over everything so we decided we were probably done for the night. Tuesday I worked out for 30 min. Wednesday everybody was sick most of the day. Thursday we were all worn out. Friday we were busy packing up to go to Oregon (until Mark threw up AGAIN) and Saturday we played with Aunt Megan. So needless to say our "catching up" was not that successful. I would say we'll try again this coming week but after last week I'm a little scared :)

As far as bookkeeping I think I've got everybody's times back up to date as of today.

By the way, did you know that bookkeeper (and its relatives) is the only word with three consecutive sets of double letters. I think that's what my English teacher said.

3/08/2010

checking in

Mike had 7 1/2 hrs and I had 80 min.

Mike wants some company on his trip. I'm sure with the weather getting better it will be easier for all of us to get doing a little more.  Let's all just keep plugging along.

I'm with Molly

I've been slacking too, and stressing about school. But I took my final today now it's just clinicals for about a month then two more test and I'm done.
I have done a little better this week, I think I worked 2 hours, and I'm going to try to do better this week. I'm still working on getting Dan to exercise, I think I'll be able to get him to go for walks with me when it gets warmer.

3/07/2010

Motivating Myself

Wow, life has been kind of crazy the`last month or so! If it's not one thing it's another thing that's trying to keep me from exercising. I've got to just kick my own butt back into gear! I LOVE they way I feel after I've exercised, but it takes SO much effort to do it. Between crazy kids, a messy living room or just to dang tired to do it, it feels like it's been forever. Oh, wait it has! And my meal planning has slacked also. UGH! Ok, it's time to get back into gear. These pounds are not going to melt themselves away. And I'm not going to feel better about myself unless I do something. I guess I was just waiting for it to get a little easier or more convenient before I started back up but heck, it's part of life and who has yet to discover that life is convenient and easy? It's just one more thing that I have to decide to do and get determined to figure out a way to do it! Ok, here I go. A brand new week, a clean slate, I CAN DO IT!!!

Anyone else with me?

Oh, as for meals this week I have planned a veggie/fruit AND bread with every dinner. I'm still working on better breakfasts and lunches but I've got to master one before I move onto another. And I'm chugging the water, I've always been told that it boosts your metabolism so I'm trying to focus on my intake a little more. I feel sorry for all you anti-water drinkers it really does taste good. :) I didn't realize how many cups 8 cups really was. It's a good thing I like water.

Ok, enough go to bed and happy exercising!

3/04/2010

fitness test result

Mike had 5 1/2 hours last week and I had 1 1/2.

And here is our report on the fitness test that I told you about. Mike did good. He got average on 2 tests and I got poor on all my tests. Guess that gives me a little room for improvement.

2/28/2010

fitness test

Here are a couple of exercise sites that I thought were interesting. I expect to hear the results of the fitness tests. I know I can do more than 3 push-ups (or I will lie) so I don't fail all the tests.

2/22/2010

Report

Mike had 5 1/2 hrs and I had 1 hr 40 min. Go Me!!!
Sorry, I've been behind. I was sick last week and now the Olympics have thrown off my schedule. That's also thrown off my exercise time: I have a total of 70 minutes for the last 2 weeks. The numbers over there -> are all up to date based on what I've been given. If you have been working out and haven't reported you're times recently make sure you post your times.

2/17/2010

Report

Mike had 5 hrs last week and I had 1/2 hr. But I am already doing better than that this week.

AND last week was a weight disaster for me. I don't think I ever made 120 lbs, however, Sun AM of this week I was 120. Sunday is notoriously my worst weight day. This is MY week! Mon I even reached 127. I have no idea where that came from.

The rest of you had better get going or Mike and I will be tanning on the sunny shores of Hawaii while the rest of you will be sitting in Battle Mountain saying Woo Hoo!

2/12/2010

Our report

I decided I'd better hurry and report last week before I have to report this week.
So Mike did 4.5 hrs and I did 2 hrs.

2/10/2010

My Fitness Plan Webstie

So a friend recommended this site to me and I've checked it out and kind of like it so I thought I'd share it with all of you.

My Fitness Plan

I'm going to try it out over the next week and see how it goes. See what you think about it!

Rachel's Report

I know I'm supposed to report week by week on Saturday or Sunday. It's now Tuesday and I'm reporting for the entire month of January. I'll try to be better next week.

In January I exercised 470 minutes, about 7 3/4 hours. Derrik exercised by shovelling snow for 3 hours and had an additional 1 hour on the rowing machine. I know, I didn't reach my goal in January, but I didn't set the goal until mid-January, so I think I did okay. How's that for justification?

1/31/2010

I thought Mike and I had 6 hr 35 min combined, but ALAS, I checked my calendar. This is our official totals for the week. Mike had 6 1/2 hrs and I actually had 40 min. I'm not sure how that happened, I thought I had totally slacked this week but I did do something.

As far as my bonus minutes...............I tried really hard but I didn't do so good. I want to know how I can go to bed weighing 120 and wake up the next morning at 118, after infusing almost 3 liters of TPN. It just isn't fair.

I have ideas for bonus points for the rest of you. Let me know if there are any takers for my ideas.
Rachel has officially joined our excursion. Her goal is 30-45 minutes 3 times a week...we'll call it 100 minutes. I guess Derrik is afraid he will have to start from North Carolina so he has opted out for now. Still haven't heard anything from a certain individual who shall not be mentioned but whose name conjures up images of chocolate covered peanut butter.
I slacked this week and only exercised 2 days so I'm at 2 hours for the week and Molly did an hour and a half.

1/26/2010

Step web site

Guess I'm gabby tonight. Actually I'm trying to cross things off my to-do list. This is the site for the steps that I have told y'all about. It gives you instructions for each step and then has some routines to do. And it is simple enough that I can figure it out. Truly amazing! Let me know what you think about it.

www.turnstep.com/Moves/index.html

My proposal

OK. So I don't know how I accidently posted on here earlier because it sure took lots of effort to find this dang blog when I wanted it. Computers are part of an evil conspiracy!

Here is my proposal. So.................I want a bonus of 30 minutes for every week that I keep my weight above 120 lb for the entire week. I will weigh in every morning and every night. This is just something that I am struggling with and working hard to correct.

Maybe everyone else could think of something like this that they would do extra to earn extra time.
Of course this all would be up to everyone's approval. Let me know what you think.

1/24/2010

Map

The map has been updated. If you pull out your microscope you will see red dots at our starting, ending, and mid-points and a blue "you are here" square. I will probably try to fix it up a little next week. But as your official tour guide I can tell you we just passed Battle Mountain.
Grandpa Dad's goal is 5 hrs/week so I think that puts our total at 15 hrs/week.

If my calculation are correct that means our family goal is 780 hours for the year. This means each hour we work out is worth 2.6 miles toward Hawaii. If that sounds good we will keep with that plan until the halfway point and re-evaluate. I will update our progress.

Goals

Thanks for your goals. I realize that due to weather, future job uncertainty, etc. it is difficult to know exactly what we will all be able to do all year. My suggestion is we take the goals we have now and use that to set our Hawaii mileage. When we get halfway we can have some under the sea themed party or something at each of our houses and maybe everybody can put a picture or two on the blog so we can all see what everybody else did. When we get halfway we can reassess our goals. If we get halfway in February we can say our goals probably need to be a little higher. If we're at the end of the summer and we still haven't gotten halfway then either everybody fell off the bandwagon errr...I mean row boat/cruise ship or maybe our goals are a little too high.

So for Mom, I figure if you walk 7 months out of the year that would give you an overall average of about 3.5 hours per week. Steph's goal is 2 hours per week. My goal is 3 hours per week. Molly's goal is 1.5 hours per week. As soon as I get Dad's goal from Mom I can recalculate our Hawaii mileage and our progress. Everybody's times should be updated shortly. If anybody thinks they have worked out longer than is shown, let me know.

1/23/2010

Mom's goals

This is tricky. When I can walk outside I will walk for 1 hr, 5 days a week. But in the meantime, I will work out 30 min, 3 times a week. (Maybe). I hope to do some stretches so I can work out 30 min 5 times a week but I cannot commit to that yet until I try it out. So professor let's see you figure that out.
I worked out for 1 hr this week.
I think Mike worked out for 5.5 hrs. I can't remember for sure what he told me. I will correct it if I was wrong.

Sister's Goal

So my goal will be to work out 4 days for 1/2 hour. I plan to walk when it gets warm and unsnowy.
I worked out 3 days for 1/2 hour, and I walked for 40 mins which was about 2.5 miles.

1/19/2010

Gimme yo' goals!

If you hadn't heard we have a new plan. Everybody needs to set a goal for how much time they will work out each week. We will combine everybody's goals to set a more challenging goal for Hawaii.

Molly's goal is 3 days for 30 minutes which gives a grand total of 1.5 hrs/week.
Lance's goal is 6 days for 30 minutes or 3 hrs/week.

If you could have your goals in by the end of the week that would be awesome possum!

And Grandpa's total has been updated. Nice job Bob!!!

1/17/2010

Work out coming

I guess I will get my workout this week. We have snow coming all week so I guess I will be shoveling snow. I will add that to my 200 steps round trip to the dog pen.

The Plan

If you haven't heard the plan is this: Our goal is to get to Hawaii before the end of the year. For every half hour we work out we get to move about a mile. If/when we make it, those who have contributed to our progress will all get together and have a stinkin' awesome luau party. There may be intermediate rewards along the way. Progress is based on the number of minutes you work out so you need to post your minutes each week so they can be recorded. So far I only have Molly's minutes and mine. A map showing our progress towards Hawaii and everybody's minutes for the year are/will be posted so everybody can see our progress. Good luck. And may the Force be with you.

1/13/2010

Starting Date

We (probably I) haven't been as organized with this as we (I) should be. Let's start keeping track starting Jan 1. If you haven't been keeping track (like me), start now.
I will work on getting some kind of mileage thing worked out soon.

Kudos to those who have been working hard for our team.

And I'm glad we are NOT keeping record of weigh because Nathan would do us all in.

You guys better beware. Mike joined a gym today. It's a good thing we are all on the same team.

1/12/2010

I worked out for 30 min. Mon., Tues., Wed., Thurs., and Sat. last week. Molly worked out some too but I don't know her times so I'll let her post. I am not going to fall below the yellow line!
